Broadway welcomed "Next Fall," a play by Geoffrey Nauffts, on its March 11 opening night at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Sheryl Kaller resumes her role as director of the split drama-comedy, which earned rave reviews during an Off Broadway run in 2009.
Switching between flash-backs and present-day scenes, the play tracks the five-year relationship of 45-year-old atheist Adam (Patrick Breen) and his 30-year-old boyfriend Luke (Patrick Heusinger), a conservative Christian. As the play opens, Luke is in a coma as a result of an accident, and Adam is left in the waiting room with Luke's equally conservative parents, Arlene (Connie Ray) and Butch (Cotter Smith), who are in-the-dark about their son's sexuality. Full Story...Link

Phish cleared for Telluride shows

Phish [ tickets ] has been given the go-ahead for a two concerts to be held Aug. 9-10 in Telluride, CO. The Telluride Town Council on Tuesday (3/9) cleared the way for the jam band to play the back-to-back shows in Town Park by resolving to exempt the concert co-producers from a deadline that would have required them to notify the town of the proposed shows by May 2009, according to The Telluride Watch. The decision completed the final step in a three-step approval process required by the Town Council for the concerts to take place. However, several other conditions must be met by the band before the shows can go forward, according to The Watch.Concert co-producers Telluride Bluegrass Festival and AEG Live reportedly must reach a legal agreement to insure that the longstanding Telluride Jazz Celebration--scheduled to run Aug. 6-8, is not negatively impacted the Phish shows.A second condition reportedly requires the band to cover a portion of law enforcement costs for the event, which have been estimated to be at least $55,000.Additionally, a minimum of 1,500 tickets reportedly must be made available for purchase only at local retailers to ensure that locals have access to the Phish shows. If the band and concert promoters meet the conditions, the Telluride shows can go forward.
Shooter Jennings spins 'Ribbons' on April trek

Shooter Jennings [ tickets ] returns to the road next month with his new band, Hierophant, in support of the singer/songwriter's just-released concept album, "Black Ribbons."The trek kicks off April 6 and runs through a April 28 show in Chattanooga, TN, that will also feature Alice in Chains. Jennings and Alice in Chains hook up three other times during the outing; details are included at right."Black Ribbons," Jennings fourth studio set, surfaced earlier this month. The concept album features narration by author Stephen King, who portrays a late-night talk-radio host who is in the "last hour of his final broadcast before the airwaves are overtaken by government-approved and regulated transmissions," according to Jennings' publicist. King's character plays music by Jennings and Hierophant between his increasingly paranoid rants. The set trades in Jennings' trademark alt-country sound for a harder-edged psychedelic/industrial-rock atmosphere."I wanted to make a different kind of record--a new adventure," Jennings said in a press release. "I know some folks may be surprised at how different this record is compared to my previous works, but I'm sure once they dig in they'll find something that speaks to them. After all, it's the twisted road that matters, not the destination.""Black Ribbons" follows Jennings' 2008 release, "Waylon Forever," on which he and producer Dave Cobb resurrected and re-created music that Jennings and his father, late country music star Waylon Jennings, first began working on when Shooter was 16-years-old. Cobb, who has worked with Chris Cornell and Jamey Johnson, also produced "Black Ribbons."[Editor's note: This story was edited on 3/13 to correct errors resulting from incorrectly transcribed itinerary.]
